Mayan Style Thatched Huts Construction

Thatched huts have been in use since before time in the Tropics, and all over the world. We'll cover the best materials to use in both the Tropics and the Northern Climates,  proper wood & bamboo selection, curing & drying techniques.

These Huts can be built on t he ground or up on poles, depending on the surrounding area. We'll show you the proper methods of framing them and construction the roof rafters, ridgepole and supports.

Then we'll start to add the thatching material and make a waterproof roof that will last for years with minimal maintenance. Methods of adding walls and future additions will also be covered as well as general maintenance and insect/snake/vector issues.

Smaller thatched huts will also be discussed, including survival types and quickie shelters.
